“The development of the scientific practices of building and using models and evidence: a longitudinal study in Early Childhood Education”

The viva for the thesis entitled “The development of the scientific practices of building and using models and evidence: a longitudinal study in Early Childhood Education”, by one of the member of the RODA team will take place next Wednesday 28th of February.

The objective of this thesis is to analyze the ways in which children engage in scientific practices and how this engagement evolves from first to third year of Early Childhood Education (ECE). A group was accompanied along the three years of ECE, and additional data were collected in another group in the same school, that was accompanied during the third year of ECE. Results indicate that children engage in scientific practices with increasing autonomy and complexity along the stage.
